Alex Au-Yeung
President of VBNF

Dear VBNF Members and Colleagues:

We had a very busy two weeks when we prepared and attended two major events on the same day at the Canada Export Centre and the Jobline Tradeshow on Feb 10. Thank you to those came to the events and of course we would like to thank Canada Export Centre and Jobline having us there.

Both events were packed with professionals and business owners. At the Canada Export Centre Chinese New Year Party, VBNF was interviewed by Channel M and Ming Pao Newspaper. We would like to thank them for coming out and did the interviews.

Thanks to the VBNF volunteers at the events. Because we have two events on the same day, it was a little bit hectic arranging the proper support at the time. I hope we can learn from the experience we had and do a better job next time.

We also had a full house at the 2010 Procurement Workshop on Feb 15. About 50+ participants attended the workshop and came out with good understanding and knowledge about the business opportunities and procurement requirements on 2010. Thanks to Canada Export Centre for hosting the event with us and their support.

  1. AM1410 CFUN Radio show with Tom Lucas

Tom is one of my favorite Radio personnel in the 70's and 80's. I used to drive to work and listen to his music everyday. He has been away from the radio business for a little while and now he is back. Thank you for coming back Tom, we missed you. Tom did a telephone interview with me on VBNF and was aired on Feb 18, 2006 at 6:40 p.m. Thanks for the support.

  2. VBNF – Vancouver Feb 22, 06 Meeting Canceled
Many of us will be going to the SOHO event on the same night and we thought we would take a break and have fun over there. Many of our VBNF members joined membership with other business network groups and we welcome that. We actually encourage our members to go out and explore new market places. That is why VBNF would go to other events and join with the others to bring new faces to our meeting. For those of us going to the SOHO event, we will see you there.

  3. VBNF – International and Chinese Chapter combined, March 1 VBNF – International meeting Canceled
We decided to combine both International and Chinese Chapter into one so we can concentrate on an area that we can put our strength on. In 2006, VBNF will bring out new programs to strengthen our position in the International Trading Market. We will work with Canadian companies who may want to bring their products into China to sell, or set up a local office there to produce products at a lower costs then either sell the products to the Chinese Market or bring them back to Canada and the US for lower production costs. VBNF is working with our partners to make that happen. We will announce our programs once we have made all the arrangements. Projects like these are not simple but very complex with the involvement with many parties and government arms. However, when it is ready, we will share with you all so you can be benefited from the programs. Because of the combination of the two chapters into one, we will need to make some arrangement with our meeting dates. Therefore, we will cancel our March 1, meeting at the Canada Export Centre. We will invite many special guests to come to our new Intl/Chinese Chapter in March. Our tentative date will be the third Wednesday of each month. For now, March 15 will be our meeting date.

  4. VBNF – Burnaby, Meet Tom Lucas in Person
I am very happy to be able to have Tom come to our next Burnaby Chapter meeting. He will do a short presentation about Marketing on the Radio and teach us some of the industry tricks. I am not familiar with that and it would be a great learning experience to me and perhaps, some of us. I am sure some of you may have enjoyed Tom’s program in the 70s and 80s. Now he is back and he will bring us better programs for sure. He is also prepared to record highlights from our meeting and put it on the radio show. Please join us to welcome Tom. I wonder if Kamilla of Asian-Pulse TV can join us at the meeting. Ain’t it great to have both the TV and Radio personals at our network meeting. It would be very interesting. At the time of this write up, I have not yet contacted Kamilla yet. I wonder if I can invite her to come. Please stay tune.

  5. Feb 28 06 – Techvibes Massive
In case you have not heard of Techvibes Massive, it is the biggest annual event hosted by Techvibes. There will be a few thousands of guests at the Massive Tradeshow. Enn Oun, one of our favorite VBNF members will be having a table there and has invited VBNF to participate at the Tradeshow. What an honour. Thank you for the invitation and I will surely be there to work beside you, Enn. Enn is the VP of The Interpreters Group and also a director of VBNF, Corporation Relations. We welcome VBNF members to come out and better yet give us a hand at the show. For more information about the event, please go to: http://www.techvibes.com/events/event2096.html

Place: Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant
Address: G/F., unit 2200 - 4540 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC

VBNF was invited to have a joint lunch meeting with the Canada Rock Society. Both VBNF members or non-members are welcomed. As you know VBNF works with other associations to help our members expand and get to know more friends and colleagues. Canada Rock Society is one of them I enjoyed to work with. They are Rock (gems stones, etc) lovers and they love to karaoke as well as making new friends. Since most of their members are Chinese they only have a Chinese version website. Of course, they all understand and speak English too. With over 400 strong members and over 10 years in existence, VBNF can learn a lot from them. By the way, many of their members have business in Richmond and other areas. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet with them. Cost is $15 for the lunch. If you are interested, please pay by check or cash at the door. You will be invoiced once you reserve a seat as we have to pay for the whole table (banquet style).

Please use the Contact us form to RSVP .

Some of our members have already registered for the event. Please note that the place has changed. Don’t miss out on this. Everybody’s invited. If you want to tape into the Chinese Market in Vancouver, here is your chance. For more information about them, please visit their website at: www.canadarock.org.
