Tutorial
VBNF will include a tutorial on our monthly Newsletter to help our reader understand business or technical issue that can help them make sound business decision as well as money saving decisions. Doing the right thing the first time is the key to success. We would like to share our expertise to help you succeed. If you are interested in a specific topic, we have a number of expertises in our membership who can help you. Please let us know what you would like to know.
1.2 Business Card and Letterhead
Business cards and Letterheads are important factors to the success of your company. Why?
The reason is simple. A Business Card is the first informational item that you will give to your customers or business associates. A well-designed Business card will give your customers the necessary contact information and the product and services you are providing. Depending on the industry you are in, a Logo can improve your business image from many of your competitors.
A Letterhead is a sheet of stationery with the logo, name and address of your organization printed at the top.
With the use of letterhead, your customer will know that you do mean business and you are professional.
1.2.1. How to make a good Business Card?
A good Business card should consist of the company logo, contact and business (product and services) information. There are many ways to do a business card such as using different materials for the card, different shapes and even mini-CDROMs. The main thing to remember: Are we choosing the right media for the right business. Are we too extraordinary from the rest of the industry that our customers may not be able to accept?
We don’t want to scare our customers away. Instead, your business card is your company’s first invitation to your customer. It should be inviting, good looking and has all the information about your company and even yourself. Do not crowd too much information on the card. Make it easy to read and clean. You can use the appropriate material for the card, not just paper. They can be of plastic, metal, fiber or clothes. Some people even use magnetic adhesive card. We do not recommend that as it may ruin the information of your credit cards if you put magnetic business card in your wallet.
1.2.2 What is a mini-CDROM business card?
A mini-CDROM is indeed a small sized (3”) CDROM cut like a rectangle with two arcs on the two opposite sides. This Business card is like a CDROM may have interactive information stored in a CDROM format. Many companies are using this media for business cards. The topside is printed with the company logo and text. If you insert the card in the CDROM drive, you will see what were put in the CDROM. A non-Interactive CDROM can show you the information like a book. An Interactive CDROM allows you to use the mouse to click on the screen where there is URLs so you can be redirected to their website or access to the area of interest quickly.
The purpose of the mini-CDROM is to give your customer a quick way to see an overview of your product without going onto the web for information. However, it is inconvenient to carry with as it can break easily.
1.2.3 How to make a good Letterhead and envelope?
A good Letterhead should at least contain the name and address of the company. With the inclusion of the company logo and enhanced graphics, your letter will be shown as an invitation to a good reading and differentiate from a stack of letters.
A good Letterhead uses the proper proportion and measurements so it would not interfere with the text content.
Normally, pre-printed envelopes are used with Letterheads to make a complete stationery package. Again, a pre-printed envelope can give your customer the distinction of your company from the rest of the others.
A Letterhead is also a standard for all your company correspondences and the corporate identity. See Telus and BC Hydro letters and bills for example.

| Hello VBNF members and friends |
| |
A New picture from Our VBNF Chinese Chapter meeting.
Welcome to Valerie Jenkinson for Vancouver City Council.
|

|
|
| |
| As usual, we have had great turnouts at our VBNF Chinese Chapter meetings. Most recently, we went to the VanClub party last Saturday and it was great fun. Everyone had an enjoyable time. We met many new friends and got a few new members from that event. We expect to see them at our next meeting in Burnaby. Thanks to the “Canadian First Barter Exchange”, our future Burnaby chapter meeting will be held in their facilities. They have a large private boardroom and water bar, enabling us to host about 50+ people there. In fact, we can even have a party there, if we wish. Great venue and thanks to Faye Nalicat for this arrangement. |

| VBNF – Burnaby Nov 9 Networking Meeting |
| |
We are extremely pleased, and honored to have Richard Lee, MLA, Jeffrey Chiu, and a few others of Team Burnaby come to our next Burnaby meeting. Come meet with them and learn about their plans to improve our community.
Faye Nalicat from First Canadian Barter Exchange will be our guest speaker for the evening. She helps businesses reduce or eliminate opportunity costs by converting their extra time & space into real income, and moving excess inventory without having to resort to major price discounting. Trading what businesses have that’s under utilized, for what they need and want does this. For more information, please visit www.barterfirst.com or email Faye at faye@barterfirst.com. First Canadian Barter Exchange is happy to offer 10% discount on Membership Fees to VBNF members.
Also, please note that several BCIT students will be coming to this meeting, to experience our networking activities. Let’s show them how networking works. It will be a great learning experience for them.

| We are expecting full house, please RSVP now to reserve your seat. |

| VBNF is connecting with other Network groups |
| |
VBNF has been meeting with other networking groups to work together. We first met with Richard Ng. President of the VanClub who came to our VBNF – Chinese meeting. VBNF also joined them at their Halloween party and met many new friends. Some of them did join VBNF and has reserved seats for the Nov 9 event. Welcome to VanClub members. We also met with other networking groups to expand our network. Please stay tune for further announcements. |
| |
VBNF is also a proud member of CNNA (The Commerce New Network Association of Canada). We will co-host seminars in the future.
|
|
| VBNF Welcomes Students |
| |
| Students are the future of our country. We are glad to have them participate in our networking events to experience the real world of business. Good for you all. I hope you will find our group resourceful and enlightening. I think your Instructors did an excellent job to encourage you to go out in the business community and learn about the real world of commerce. I surely hope to meet with your Instructors and thank them in person. Please invite them to come to our meeting. Remember, networking is not a “one time” event. It takes time, and patience, to build a good relationship with your prospects or potential business partners. If you only want to come to the meeting to meet your school requirements, you are not going to gain the benefit of networking. Information about many businesses, or job opportunities, can be found at networking functions. Think about that. |

| A New Chapter Is Born – VBNF – International |
| |
I am happy to announce that we will be starting a new chapter for Business people who are focused in trading internationally.
Vancouver is a great city that is the gateway to the Far East and the U.S. There are many great trading / investment opportunities in B.C. and other major Cities in Canada and in other countries. For example, our Oil and Mineral resources have been important highlights in the global economy. We will take maximum advantage of that status and help bring more business opportunities to Vancouver and the VBNF members.
Starting this month, we will be hosting VBNF – International meetings at the Canada Export Centre, which is conveniently located at 400-602 West Hastings St., Vancouver, V6B 1P2. They have a world-class conference room, and a large meeting room for us to use for meetings or events. Thank you, Mark Mensing, CEO of the Canada Export Centre to let us use the facility. Visit the centre to see some of the great products Canada exports to the world. |
| |
| |
| VBNF – Why go International? |
| |
| VBNF is getting popular even outside Canada. One of our members from Dallas, Texas, was interested to start a new chapter in Dallas. I am glad to hear that. Once we get everything ironed out, we will make it happen. I lived there for 3 years in Dallas and certainly have several good friends there who may be interested to help out. We expect other areas will follow. With our great website, nothing can stop us. Watch out! VBNF is coming. |
| |
| |
| VBNF Gets Higher Score On Traffic |
| |
| Our website is extremely “hot’, with the number of visits (hits) continuing to increase dramatically. Not only are we getting new members when we meet people, we are also getting new members from the search engines. Typically, we are found in the top 5 spots in Yahoo, MSN and Google. (Actually, we did not pay Google well.) Just type “Business Network in Vancouver”, or related wording, and you will find us easily. If you are looking for “Chinese Business Networks in Vancouver”, we are often in the No. 1 spot. Not bad! We certainly have the experience to help anyone improve their website ranking when searches are performed. Accordingly, we encourage you to contact us and speak to our experts at www.cmydesigns.com. |
